This 3-day Figure Drawing Intensive will focus on the trois-crayon technique, which was pioneered and popularized by Flemish Baroque master, Peter Paul Rubens. It involves the use of charcoal, sanguine, and white chalk on toned paper. We’ll learn about these materials, anatomical proportions, structure, and form through value, modeling, and contouring. We’ll meet over wine and horsd’oeuvres during our Friday evening session where our instructor, Katelyn Chapman, will conduct a 2-hour demo with one of our figure models. Questions, note taking, and sketching will be welcomed by students during this time. In the two days that follow, students will warm up with quick sketches then work to complete drawings in a long-pose format from both male and female models. We will have an hour lunch break in between on both days.
All materials will be provided except for paper. Lunch will be up to the participants.
